Clay Dolls

This week Dan Selter accompanied us to a potlock at Theo Edmonds' house, where after a lovely communal dinner he showed us how to make clay dolls.

Random Shapes & Kids' Cafe Workshop

We are four weeks in and making tremendous progress on our doll project! At Bullhorn on January 25, we were given outlines of shapes to use in designing new wooden dolls.

This is the technique we used at our Kids' Cafe workshop that weekend at the East Seventh Street Center.

We were joined by many community members and members of Lexington Catholic's Art Club and made more than a hundred designs that day!

First Two Weeks

We're two weeks into CETA 2012, and here's what we've been up to so far.

We've met in Bullhorn.

We've made paper dolls for thank-you cards.

We've taken a very informative tour of the North Limestone neighborhood with Marty Clifford.

More to come as we get further along in our projects this semester.

First Installation

As practice, we were offered the opportunity to install our first mural on the front of a house on Johnson Avenue. We learned a lot about the process and managed to actually create a rather interesting piece of art that truly stands out. Thanks to Angela for her willingness to sacrifice her front wall for our mural-making experience.

Elvis did not like being stuck inside.

Kid's Cafe Pictures

Just a few images of our day working on the "medallions" with the kids at the Kid's Cafe. The kids brought in some of their favorite items to be used as designs for stencils that will go in the center of the squares on the Sayre mural. They also got to work on cutting out patterns in much the same way that we've been doing.

Patterns, Set #2: Sav's Grill

This week we created stencils based on patterns found on fabrics that were shown to us by Sav, the owner of an incredible restaurant located at 304 s. limestone street: Sav's Grill.

This pattern was apparently fairly popular; Blair, Kremena and Kurt all chose to work with it.

Kurt and Kremena also chose this pattern on which to base a stencil.

Both of these patterns were used by April.

Katie used this pattern as inspiration for her stencil.

Clay used both of these two patterns. Cody used a little of the second one.

Cody also used this pattern.
